Seatwise Seating Planner
Classroom and wedding seating charts that follow your rules, with printable PDFs and place cards.
Seatwise Seating Planner seats a class or a guest list and checks each hard rule: keep these two apart, keep this family together, front seats for students who need them, VIPs at the head table, children at the kids table. It scores the soft preferences (mixed groups, last week's neighbours split up), names the rules that conflict when no seating works, and gives you a printable chart, tent-fold place cards and an Excel file.
What it does
- Classroom layouts: rows of single desks, desks in pairs, or groups of 2-10
- Hard rules checked on each chart: keep apart, keep together, needs a front seat, head table, kids table, households together
- Mix or group students by a label you choose (for example reading level), and weekly rotation that avoids last week's neighbours
- Wedding and event tables: round or long, any capacity, head table and kids table
- Conflict report that names the rules that cannot all hold
- Upload a class roster or guest list (CSV or Excel)
- Printable PDF (teacher view and student view, or table plan plus alphabetical escort card list), place cards 4 per Letter page, Excel
Try asking ChatGPT
“Make a seating chart for my class of 24 in rows of 6; keep Ben and Eli apart; Cara needs a front seat”
“28 students in groups of 4, mixed by reading level”
“Wedding seating chart: 80 guests, tables of 8, keep households together, head table of 10”
Limitations
- Up to 600 people and 100 tables or 400 desks per chart
- Does not store your roster; download links expire after about an hour
- Does not seat stadiums, theaters, airlines or ticketed venues
- Names in scripts outside Latin, Greek and Cyrillic are dropped from the PDF (they stay in Excel)
